Sometimes creative discoveries surge forth from the most unlikely sources. The algorithmic approach that generates these informally titled "tribbles" was developed in the wake of a series of intellectually stimulating exchanges between the artist and geneticist and evolutionary theorist dr. Eugene M. McCarthy.
The angular yet organic-looking furred shapes arise from a cellular automaton process that operates on a radially grounded complex plane instead of the standard cartesian one. Contrary to popular cellular models where individual cells are most akin to simple on-off switches, the ones simulated by the this algorithm have lifespans and life stages that impact their behavior along with the visual output generated by the vivacious developmental explosion towards endpoint populations of hundreds of millions of cells.
